About Crag
CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.
Research Programs at CRAG (from basic science to applied research using plant experimental model systems, crops and farm animals) make extensive use of genomic technologies and large sets of genetic and genomic data (https://www.cragenomica.es/sites/default/files/2022-07/crag-summary-2020-2021_0.pdf).
Responsibilities
The Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) is looking for a Lab Technician to be part of the group Epigenetics and Plant Development.
The Lab Technician will join the group “Epigenetics and Plant Development” to provide research support. Responsibilities will include planning and carrying out experiments under the supervision of the Group Leader, as well as helping other group members with daily routine tasks such as maintenance of lab supplies and stocks. The tasks are included within the framework of the project CNS2023-145632 “Unravelling the epigenome dynamics underlying plant responses to cold temperatures”.
Requirements
Educational requirements: MSc in Plant Biology or equivalent.
Skills
- A strong background in plant molecular biology (essential)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
- Excellent organisational skills
- Demonstrable ability to work in a laboratory setting (essential)
- Previous experience in nucleic acid isolation from plant tissues (essential)
- Previous experience in handling Arabidopsis thaliana (essential)
- Familiar with different cloning techniques (essential)
- Previous experience in protoplast isolation and transfection (desirable)
- Ability to present work to other scientists (oral presentations)
Contract Duration: 3 months
Hours/week: full time

Knowledge of regular techniques for a Plant Molecular biology laboratory (RNA and DNA isolation; generation of constructs, handling plants).
The work is part of the reference project TED2021-132895B-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by the European Union Next GenerationEU/PRTR.
Requirements
Educational requirements: Technician or bachelor´s degree
Skills: Those related to the work in a plant molecular biology laboratory, able to communicate in english
Experience: Experience in plant molecular biology, experience in in vitro culture and/or preparation of sequencing libraries for NGS will be considered as a plus.
