Job Summary

In this key role, the Assistant Controller will be responsible for guiding and supporting the daily activities of the accounting team, ensuring smooth and efficient hotel operations in compliance with company policies and procedures. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Finance Team to maintain accurate financial records, monitor internal controls, and support strategic financial planning to drive business success.

Core Responsibilities.

Financial Management: Supervise the preparation and recording of journal entries, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of all month-end tasks. Generate financial statements and reports in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Account Reconciliation: Assist in preparing month-end balance sheet account reconciliations and analyses.

Income Audit & Reporting: Oversee and ensure the accuracy of all day-to-day transactions, including internal controls, credit card, and cash operations, in compliance with company policies to safeguard the hotel’s assets and operational integrity.

Procurement and Expense Management: Supervise procurement and expense management to ensure optimal and efficient operations.

Team Leadership & Development: Assist in the development and training of direct reports, as well as the cross-training of all team members, to ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.

Budget & Forecasting: Assist in creating the Annual Operating Plan, CapEx budgets, and monthly operating and CapEx forecasts.

Audit & Compliance: Participate in and support audits by providing necessary information, implementing agreed changes, and ensuring follow-up on audit action plans.

Technology Integration: Assist in the effective use and integration of hotel technology systems.

Requirements:

Education, Experience, Skills, And Competencies Required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field (minimum of 4 years).
  • Experience in finance and accounting within the hospitality industry.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and internal controls.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with hospitality software (Opera, Micros, etc.).
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish is required.
