Key responsibilities:
Project Start-Up Phase
- Lead the transition from estimating to delivery by arranging and chairing the internal project handover meeting.
- Coordinate with the Operations Director to determine project staffing requirements and ensure appropriate resource allocation.
- Validate the project scope and develop key project controls, including the business plan, cost-control systems, cash-flow forecasts, and billable schedules.
- Produce core project documentation such as the procurement plan, design/drawing schedule, construction programme, S-curves, and manpower histograms.
- Liaise with the client and design teams to resolve procurement and engineering questions prior to site mobilisation.
- Mobilise subcontractors, suppliers, and labour in line with the business plan and project schedule.
Project Running Phase
- Oversee the effective day-to-day delivery of all site activities, ensuring progress is aligned with programme, budget, quality, and safety objectives.
- Ensure the project is delivered on time, within cost parameters, and in compliance with specifications and contractual obligations.
- Monitor material deliveries, engineering outputs, and quality performance, taking corrective actions where necessary.
- Lead regular client meetings and hold weekly progress meetings with subcontractors, ensuring safety, training, and coordination topics are addressed.
- Conduct monthly internal team meetings to track progress against project milestones.
- Measure productivity weekly and maintain accurate progress control documentation.

Project Completion Phase
- Coordinate testing, commissioning, and handover activities, ensuring all requirements are defined, scheduled, and executed before formal commissioning begins.
- Ensure all systems are demonstrated to the client and relevant authorities (e.g., Building Control) in line with project requirements.
- Work with the Quantity Surveyor to prepare, submit, and agree the final account in line with commercial objectives.
- Produce a detailed project close-out report for the Operations Director, covering commercial, technical, and delivery performance.
- Maintain communication with the client throughout the warranty/defects period and manage retention processes.
- Complete all post-project duties, including site clearance, document archiving, financial closure, lessons-learned reviews, and secure disposal of confidential information.
Qualifications & Experience:
- HND in Construction, Building Services, Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
- Proven experience delivering large-scale Mechanical & Electrical projects from start-up through to handover.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to interpret contract requirements and manage commercial risk.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise and lead Health, Safety, and Environmental responsibilities.

About the Company
This company is a fast-growing developer of RNG / biogas projects, delivering end-to-end solutions: feedstock sourcing, anaerobic digestion, upgrading to biomethane/RNG, grid injection, operations & maintenance, and commercial offtake. They have a strong pipeline of projects in Spain and Southern Europe, and are backed by investment capital and technical partnerships that support major growth.
Role Summary
As the Managing Director for Spain & Southern Europe, you will lead the company’s business operations in Spain and adjacent markets, headquartered in Madrid. You’ll be responsible for establishing the region’s strategy, executing project development and delivery, building and leading high-performance teams, ensuring safe and compliant operations, driving commercial growth, and representing the business with key stakeholders (feedstock suppliers, utilities, regulators, investors). Your mandate is to scale the business, deliver project targets, and build the long-term local presence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the regional growth strategy for Spain and Southern Europe (including Portugal, Southern France, Southern Italy).
- Lead end-to-end project lifecycle: site sourcing and feedstock supply, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, grid injection/RNG upgrading, O&M, and commercial offtake.
- Build and manage the regional leadership team (project execution, operations, commercial/BD, technical services).
- Establish and maintain relationships with key partners: waste & agricultural feedstock suppliers, utilities/injection grid operators, offtakers, financial institutions, EPC contractors.
- Ensure rigorous governance: safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contract management, risk mitigation.
- Drive business development: identify new opportunities, develop proposals/negotiations, lead M&A or joint-venture discussions where required.
- Represent the company in the Spanish energy, waste and biogas sectors: regulatory engagement, industry associations, government bodies.
- Monitor KPI’s for all regional projects: CAPEX, OPEX, return on investment, injection volumes, revenue growth, team performance.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations (waste, energy, environmental), manage permitting processes, and secure necessary approvals.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Proven senior leadership experience in energy infrastructure, ideally RNG / biogas / waste-to-value or adjacent sectors (natural gas networks, LNG, renewable gases).
- Track record of delivering large-scale projects (CAPEX hundreds of millions) from development through operations.
- Strong business development and commercial acumen with successful project wins and offtake agreements.
- Technical or engineering background (Engineering degree in e.g. Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental or Industrial Engineering) complemented by business qualification (MBA, PDD, etc).
- Experience operating in Spain or Southern Europe, with fluency in Spanish and English; additional European languages are an advantage.
- Strong stakeholder management: feedstock sourcing, utilities, regulators, investors, EPC contractors.
