This project explores the impact of high temperatures on physiological stress and ageing in developing birds, focusing on effects that are often underestimated due to their non-lethal nature (at least in the short-term) and lack of direct perceptibility.
The main objectives are to disentangle the effects generated during the prenatal period (incubation and the embryo development) and during the postnatal period (after hatching and the nestling development), and to quantify the intergenerational impacts of the early thermal stress, identifying when, how and through which parent (the mother or the father) these effects are transmitted. The candidate will undertake different tasks including aviary maintenance activities, experimental procedures such as bird handling, blood sampling, and data processing, as well as laboratory work.
Laboratory assays will involve quantifying telomere length and oxidative stress markers using HPLC (High-performance liquid chromatography), qPCR, and other laboratory equipment.
The role also includes bioinformatics-related tasks.
Although training in laboratory techniques will be provided, previous experience in aviary and laboratory work will be positively evaluated, as the position entails a substantial workload in both areas.
The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic, creative, and hardworking.Where to applyE-mail:****** Field:Biological sciences » ZoologyEducation Level:Master Degree or equivalentSkills/Qualifications:A degree in Biology and a Master's Degree in relevant fields (i.E.

The lab is starting at CISA-CSIC and therefore this position will be essential to establish analytical workflows and pipelines that will be used by all team members.
The position has two main components.
The first one involves analysing new transcriptomic data (potentially multi-omics data in the future) from the ear of different mosquito species as well as integrating data previously generated from different labs.
This component will include strong interactions with international (in Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa) and industry partners as part of a MSCA Staff Exchange grant.
The second component will focus on developing computational pipelines for signal processing, mostly mosquito auditory recordings and video data analysis.
Although experience in both fields would be desirable, candidates with experience in only one of them will be considered if they show strong interest to further develop their skills.Key ResponsibilitiesThe main tasks will be to analyse the data generated by other members of the team and to develop new methods of analysis.
