We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us expand and scale our configuration platform within Datadog. As part of the Runtime Configuration team you will help design and drive the internal systems that allow our Engineers to safely release and reliably operate code within our global cloud infrastructure, thousands of times a day.
This is a high-impact, high-visibility role interacting with Engineers across Datadog to provide safe and reliable release tooling. As Datadog continues to invest in and expand our global infrastructure this team has the opportunity to solve a number of business problems, providing multiple avenues for advancement.
In this position you will design and implement components within our runtime configuration platform, including high-performance client libraries, robust APIs, and global distribution mechanisms. You will help engineering teams integrate their services with our configuration platforms and develop safe distribution mechanisms across our global Kubernetes infrastructure.

What You’ll Do:
- Work with Engineering teams across Datadog to understand their configuration related business needs and provide solutions.
- Develop high-performance client libraries for our runtime configuration and feature flag platform.
- Integrate internal systems with our configuration platform.
- Build systems to safely distribute configuration across our global infrastructure.
- Mentor junior team members and interns.
- Someone who can operate independently, methodically experiment, rapidly iterate, and has no fear of failure.
- Possess good communications skills and have experience gathering requirements from stakeholders.
- Someone with a willingness to learn new languages and technologies, diving deep into runtimes and ecosystems.
- Experienced at delivering software solutions and libraries in Java or Python.
- Familiar with data structures and algorithms, and have a knack for profiling and optimization.
- Bonus Points: Familiarity with gRPC
- Bonus Points: Familiarity with Rust, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Golang
- Bonus Points: Experience with configuration management and/or feature flag systems

The Company:
This online advertising network & exchange delivers multi-platform programmatic and tracked AdTech solutions to connect digital advertisers with publishers. They are part of a $500m global group, with offices elsewhere in Europe and the USA and they have recently expanded their offices in central Barcelona, to accommodate their growing team.
They are currently building a brand new AdTech platform, to replace their existing core platform, to deliver maximum competitive advantage. They process extremely high volumes (X0,000 requests/second) so code efficiency is essential, as is high availability, to continue and accelerate their growth.
Requirement:
They are now looking for two additional Software Engineers to complete the build of this new platform (written mostly in Golang) and then to continue adding improvements, functionality and customising to their client’s specific requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Working across all elements of their AdTech stack, including ad delivery systems, OS and network level optimisation.
Optimise and improve existing systems to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their digital ad campaigns.
Working in a public cloud (Linux ecosystem) environment
Ensure their systems are scalable and reliable to handle more traffic and efficiently deliver ads without interruption.
Identify causes and develop practical, efficient fixes for complex software problems.
Collaborate cross-functionally, especially with Data Analysts, Product Managers, Marketers and Designers, to align platform development with business objectives.
Mandatory Skills/Experience:
At least 5 years’ experience as a Software Developer including 2 years’ experience using Go (and a preference for those with low level programming skills using Scala, Rust or C)
Proficient English language skills and an effective communicator.
Desired Skills/Experience:
Understanding of the AdTech sector, including ad-delivery systems
Familiar with programmatic advertising, including DSPs, SSPs and Real Time Bidding.
Experience working in a public cloud environment, ideally Linux ecosystem.
