The Group of Numerical Methods in Engineering (GMNI) is developing research related to the application of computational mechanics techniques and numerical simulations for the topology optimization of structures considering a minimum weight approach and advanced constraints related to non-linear phenomena and dynamic analysis. For the development of this line of research, it is necessary to hire a Trainee Researcher with the following tasks:Develop realistic and reliable analysis models from an engineering point of view.Develop highly efficient structural models that include non-linear phenomena like buckling for the topology optimization problem.Analyze non-linear phenomena regarding material non-linearities like creep in the analysis of structures.Minimum RequirementsThe candidate must:Hold degrees that give access to doctoral programs.Be enrolled in a doctoral program within the Galician University System in the field of engineering that includes research lines in numerical methods in engineering.Have knowledge of linear and non-linear structural analysis.Have knowledge of programming languages for computational mechanics.Additional InformationEligibility criteriaEvaluation criteria: For the award of the contract, the academic grades will be valued at 55%, where two aspects will be taken into account:The overall grade of the degree,The grades of the subjects in the field of differential equations, numerical methods, HPC computer programming, and mechanics of structures. The candidate's experience and knowledge in the tasks to be performed in the project will be valued at 15%, particularly in numerical methods for linear and nonlinear structural analysis and their programming.
Other academic merits, such as participation in congresses or research workshops, awards, research contracts, and collaboration scholarships, will be valued at 20%.The personal interviews of those candidates who exceed 60 points in the previous sections will be valued at 10%.
The minimum score for candidates to be placed on the waiting list is 70 points. The above evaluation criteria will be weighted in accordance with the following scorecard:A) Academic record (maximum 55 points)A maximum of 40 points will be considered based on the average grade of the degrees' records.
Preference will be given to candidates with degrees in the field of Civil Engineering. In the case of applications with other engineering degrees (or recognized equivalent master's degrees), a weighting factor of 50% will be applied to the average grade.
In the case of candidates with degrees different from the above, the weighting factor will be 10%.
The points awarded will be weighted according to the average grade of the undergraduate transcript, so that 20 are obtained for having completed the degree, and the remaining 20 points will be awarded progressively according to the average grade of the transcript.
The grade obtained for the bachelor's degree may be increased (up to a maximum of 40 points) with a master's degree or equivalent in the same field.
For having taken an official master's degree, 5 points may be awarded and another 5 points proportionally depending on the grade obtained in it.
The remaining 15 points will be assigned according to the grades of the subjects taken by the candidate in relation to the tasks of the project related to differential equations, numerical methods, mechanics of structures, HPC computer programming, and computational mechanics (2 points/6 ECTS).
In the case of these subjects, the same weighting will be applied as for the average grade according to the degree taken.B) Experience and knowledge related to the activities to be developed (maximum 15 points)B.1 Experience in the development of numerical formulations in the field of nonlinear structural mechanics (maximum 5 points).
Each year of experience will be valued with a maximum of 1 point.B.2 Programming: programming knowledge in languages such as Fortran, C, Matlab, and use of computer software as ABAQUS and COMSOL will be valued (2 points each one, maximum 10 points).C) Other academic merits (maximum 20 points)Participation in congresses or research workshops, awards, research contracts, or competitive collaboration scholarships obtained in a competitive call will be valued 4 points each.
This score will also be weighted according to their affinity with the scope of the project.
In the case of merits in the field of civil engineering but not directly related to the scope of the project, they will be weighted with 20%.
In other cases, weighting will be zero.D) Personal interviewTo the candidates that exceed a score of 60 points in the previous sections (maximum 10 points).Selection processWHERE TO APPLY: UDC online services site.

Its primary goal is to share information and conduct a comparative study of prison transparency systems in Argentina, Canada, and Spain. The PTP aims to carry out a seven-year (2023–2030) collaborative and comparative study on prison transparency across seven carceral systems in Canada, Argentina, and Spain, taking into account the specific contexts of Quebec and Catalonia.
The project examines both formal mechanisms and informal practices that promote the flow of information inside and outside prisons, whether for accountability purposes or to defend the rights and freedoms of incarcerated individuals.
The PTP is composed of an international team of researchers, people with lived prison experience, public institutions, NGOs, grassroots organizations, lawyers, journalists, and relatives and friends of incarcerated individuals.
ECRIM (ecrim.Es) coordinates the Spanish research and working team.Among the PTP's main objectives are collecting prison transparency-related data over the project's seven-year span through surveys, interviews, independent reports, and official data.
This data will form the core of the research, enabling an understanding and comparison of prison transparency systems.
By collaborating with community organizations that support incarcerated individuals, PTP members prioritize the most relevant aspects for data collection and analysis. The project also aims to compare access-to-information systems across different countries (Argentina, Canada, and Spain) and specific political and governmental cultures (e.G., Quebec, Catalonia); to document diverse strategies for addressing transparency in different local and international contexts; to support the creationof transnational networks of activists, formerly incarcerated individuals, relatives, and prison monitoring organizations; to provide training andsupport to formerly incarcerated individuals and university students in research and public communication; and to share findings through multiple channels, including podcasts, seminars, publications, and community activities.TASKS TO BE CARRIED OUT:The recruited research support technician will be part of ECRIM, being expected to carry out the following tasks in collaboration with the PTP research team:Technical support in the development of the research tasks of the projects (elaboration of working documents and research reports, referencing, collaboration in the preparation of academic articles and papers).Support in field work research on prison transparency in Spain (participation in the design of research instruments, data collection, quantitative and qualitative data analysis).Assistance in international and national coordination tasks (participation in project meetings, liaison with international research teams, collaboration in organizing academic activities, assistance in communication tasks, liaison with non-academic partners).Assistance in the dissemination of research results at the national and international level (collaboration in the presentation of findings in academic events, collaboration in the preparation of non-academic publications, collaboration in the organization and communication of activities, via social media, blogs and websites).LOCATION AND WORKING HOURS:Law School.
