What You Do

What You Will Do
- Design and implement new features in our core technologies, working collaboratively with other stakeholder teams to understand requirements and identify the best technical solutions as well as plan the future of our server core technologies that will lay the foundation for exciting new gameplay features
- Inspect the performance of our server clusters and propose improvements
- Deep analysis of player behaviors and how our server can be hardened to both improve player experience and also defend against bad actors (botters, cheaters, etc)
- Work closely with the QA team to resolve bugs and deliver high quality code as well as Deploy, monitor, and manage applications in a cloud environment such as AWS
- Stay up-to-date with industry changes and emerging trends, especially regarding Python, Redis and its ecosystem, AWS, Gaming, etc
- Experience in developing highly available back-end systems and servers for large-scale MMO games, high-traffic web systems or applications
- Experienced with Python and its ecosystem (libraries, frameworks, etc.), familiarity with web frameworks such as Flask, Tornado, FastAPI, or another similar web framework and Python threading, as well as the principles of async programming
- Familiar in design and implementation of highly-scalable, reliable, and secure systems using Redis and its ecosystem, such as Redislabs. Solid understanding of RESTful API design and development. Ability to write efficient low-latency, low-IO code
- Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems and Docker containers, as well as Redis, MySQL (or similar database systems). Good understanding of how to prevent intrusions, injections, cheating etc.
- Experience in version control, especially multi-track development and familiarity with deployments methodologies and CI/CD pipelines as well as automated testing
- Experience with stateful and stateless game server architectures
- Experience working with AWS services like EC2, ECR, RDS, S3, and IAM

What You’ll Do
You’ll join a cross-functional team focused on building scalable, production-ready machine learning systems that power key business decisions. Your work will sit at the intersection of data science, analytics engineering, and infrastructure, turning prototypes into systems that operate reliably at scale. You’ll help bridge the gap between experimentation and production, enabling rapid iteration and strong engineering standards.
- Own the deployment lifecycle of machine learning models, from automated training and testing through CI/CD to monitoring and alerting in production
- Collaborate with Data Scientists and Analytics Engineers to transform research prototypes into robust, reproducible code ready for deployment
- Build and manage cloud-native infrastructure, leveraging GCP services like BigQuery, Cloud Composer (Airflow), Dataproc, and Cloud Run
- Drive high engineering standards – writing clean, modular, and tested code in Python and contributing to shared libraries and tools
- Design and optimize data pipelines using dbt and BigQuery, enabling high-quality datasets for analytics and ML
- Contribute to the infrastructure stack for ML and data pipelines using Docker, Kubernetes, and (ideally) Terraform
- Actively contribute to planning discussions, proactively propose improvements, and take ownership of deliverables

Our client is one of the worlds biggest hedge funds managing investments for a wide array of institutional clients, from charitable foundations to foreign governments and central banks. In this role, you will oversee a newly established back-end team developing an oversight platform for managing all of hedge funds trade generation activity. You will interact with team members who deeply understand product & business problems and investors who are also technically savvy and work in deep partnership with engineers.
We are looking for a Senior Java/Scala Developer for the team. Each person in the team will deeply understand product & business problems and will work on the stack end to end as the team builds an oversight platform for managing all of the hedge funds trade generation activity. Users of the technology in the Department are extremely sophisticated investors who are also technically savvy and work in a deep partnership model with the engineers. Our goal is to build highly functional, beautiful, and intuitive technologies for these processes which ultimately drive, scale, and enable our investment processes.

Responsibilities
- Developing extremely sophisticated tools and collaborating with some of hedge funds most sophisticated investors
- Operating within a dynamic team focused on back-end development but also working with engineers from several different areas of focus
- Working closely with various technology teams. Most often, we interact with UI/UX Design team, backend engineering team, and platform engineers
Requirements
- Strong computer science fundamentals with a mastery of back-end development
- 7+ years professional software development experience in technically rigorous environments
- Excellent design skills (with the security focus, OOD, SOLID, GRASP, KISS, YAGNI, DRY, etc.)
- Experience in Scala development or back-end experience in any popular language (Java/.NET) and open to study Scala
- Strong algorithmic and debugging skills
- Wide experience with CI/CD, SDLC, Agile and Design patterns
- Excellent soft, analytical and problem-solving skills
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience in Python
- Knowledge in infrastructure as code software using Terraform
- Experience working with Automating Deployment tools, e.g. Kubernetes
- Experience working with Apache ZooKeeper
- Java developers without Scala experience but willing to switch to Scala are welcome
