Who You'll Work With
You will be based in our Madrid office as part of our Private Equity & Principal Investors (PEPI) practice. Our practice is the world’s leading advisor to the PEPI industry and a high growth area for the firm, working with many of the most significant global and local private investors and their portfolio companies.
You will work in teams and directly with our clients. You will also work with the wider McKinsey network including a range of experts in the firm, from industry and functional experts to data scientists to researchers to software and app designers.

Your Impact
You will work in a team to support private investor clients and their portfolio companies throughout the deal lifecycle including diligence, value creation topics and exit support.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to assess and identify market attractiveness, provide targeted information and specialized financial analysis on potential acquisitions as well as prepare and deliver high-impact communication of your synthesized findings. You will also have the opportunity to work directly with portfolio companies on their value creation agenda, spanning a diverse set of topics as well as be a subject matter expert on topics related to our service to investors. You will be recognized as a valuable resource of experience, information and expertise both inside the firm and by our clients.
You will receive training on how to better structure ambiguous problems and take action to solve them as well as synthesize clear takeaways and recommendations from complex information, using both qualitative and quantitative method. You will work effectively with diverse teams to come up with the best solution and move people and organizations to act. You will establish trust-based relationships with clients to better-serve their organizations, communicate effectively with all audiences including senior leaders and develop your leadership style, leveraging your own passions, strengths and personal values.
During your first few years with the firm, you will serve as a business analyst on multiple client engagements and work with a number of colleagues and clients in a range of private investor settings across different industry and functional areas and develop significant business experience as well as an investor mindset. You will likely intersect with many elements of our firm’s work including digital, implementation, and tech and analytics capabilities.
Your role differs from McKinsey’s generalist business analyst role in its focus. Your role will focus entirely on serving investor clients and their portfolio companies (since our clients invest across sectors and types of companies, the role still offers exposure to a wide variety of sectors and functional levers).
Your Qualifications and Skills
- Being in your penultimate year of studies (bachelor or master)
- Outstanding record of academic achievement
- Interest in investment bank, private equity or venture capital environment
- Investor mindset and strong interest in private equity, real estate and/or venture capital
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and create an inclusive environment with people at all levels of an organization
- Capability to drive an independent workstream in the context of a broader team project
- Comfort with ambiguous, ever-changing situations

You will be based in one of our European offices as part of our Operations Practice.
Our Operations Practice assists our clients in solving complex operational challenges. Blending strategic thinking with hands-on practicality, our teams of consultants and experts work to develop and implement operational strategies that solve our clients’ most critical problems.
McKinsey’s Procurement service line is part of our Operations practice, providing clients with support and advising their management teams on strategic and operational questions such as global sourcing, e-procurement, supplier development, and the formation of purchasing organizations.

Your Impact
You will play an active role in problem solving for clients including identifying issues, forming hypotheses, designing, and conducting analyses, and synthesizing conclusions into recommendations.
As part of our two-year Operations Excellence Program (OEP), you will work on client engagements in the same way as any other McKinsey consultant. You will gain leading edge operations and consultancy skills, primarily through on-the-job coaching, which will be complemented by the OEP’s structured capability-building program.
We view the OEP position as the start of a rewarding, challenging and highly flexible career with McKinsey and the Operations practice. During your first few years with the firm, you will serve as a junior practice specialist on multiple client engagements and work with a number of colleagues and clients in a range of industry and operations service lines. You will acquire the necessary knowledge and expertise to help companies achieve excellence in their operations.
Along with other members of the OEP community, you will dedicate many days to functional training and knowledge development under the leadership of our operations experts. You will follow a curriculum based on operations excellence themes and will receive advanced training in one of six specific areas of operations manufacturing, product development, purchasing, service operations, supply chain management, or capital excellence.
Upon completion of the program, successful consultants will join our global group of leading experts in operational excellence. We already have OEP graduates working at all levels of the firm from associate to partner.

Your Qualifications and Skills
- Master’s degree and exceptional academics required
- Initial experience in strategic purchasing and/or supply management (e.g., global sourcing strategies, cross functional category management, RfQ processes and negotiations, talent development and capability building)
- Proven record of leadership in a work setting and/or through extracurricular activities
- Mobility and enthusiasm for taking on European assignments during the work week
- Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English and local office language
