1Factorial
Barcelona, ES
Senior Software Engineer - Talent Domain
Factorial · Barcelona, ES
. Ruby Ruby on Rails Office
Hello! 👋
Would you love to improve the way companies take care of their people, their most valuable asset?
We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Talent Domain at Factorial.
Talent Domain 👾
Our mission is to help companies develop their employees, keeping them engaged and delighted at the same time, helping the company’s teams become the best versions of themselves.
To do this, we provide tools to managers and HR managers in the areas of recruitment, performance, engagement, and trainings. But we know there is space for more! That's why we need talented people to go faster.
The role 📜
As a Senior Engineer at Factorial, you'll be part of a team of 150+ product developers. We look for talented people who are curious, proactive, and have great communication skills. People who are at the forefront of developing tools that help teams become the best versions of themselves.
You'll work in a multicultural, English-speaking environment where your technical acumen, creative problem-solving abilities, and passion for user-centric products will directly contribute to our mission of improving HR processes for SMEs worldwide. It’s your choice to work from home, in our Barcelona offices, or mixing both.
Our stack is Ruby on Rails for the backend and React/React Native for the clients.
But, hey! Don't let unfamiliarity with these specific technologies hold you back! If you're someone eager to learn, you have navigated through diverse technical challenges throughout your career, and have a hunger for building new solutions that help cultivate highly satisfied, productive, employees, then we want to talk to you.
Work ethics
At Factorial, we know that building a great product means building a great team. We value some key principles that help us thrive together.
- Radical (and Passionate) Candor: We're excited about creating great products and advancing our mission. This means being proactive, obsessing about quality, and experimenting. We tell our managers and peers things we think we cannot say, practicing radical candor to drive innovation and improvement.
- Effective Communication: Clear communication, especially in writing, is crucial. We communicate openly, build narratives, and aren't afraid to debate ideas. If we can't explain something clearly, we seek to understand more deeply until we can. And remember, English is our vehicular language, so you need to be comfortable with it!
- Product Vision: We understand our users' needs and actively engage with them. We constantly look for business opportunities, always asking "What can be next for Factorial?"
- Reliability and Accountability: We deliver on our commitments while maintaining high quality. We feel accountable for the culture and make others feel accountable too. When we see something broken, we stand up to fix it, feeling responsible for all of Factorial.
- Problem-Solving: We don't limit ourselves to our nominal job definition. We bring, execute, and later communicate solutions, seeking approval only for decisions that would be hard to reverse.
- Teamwork Ease: We collaborate well, adapt easily, and are open to feedback. We convince or get convinced, asking the same from everyone. If an initiative comes top-down, we debate it until we fully buy-in, then champion it to our teams.
- Fighting Complacency: We challenge the status quo and fight complacency with our whole hearts. We're vocal when something is going wrong, seeing it as an opportunity for a better world.
- Having Fun: While our work is serious, we trust our gut when we have a 10x motivation to try something new. We jump on opportunities for innovation, involving as many people as possible.
You’ll start with a 2 weeks onboarding period, where you will:
- Read a lot: Learn about Factorial, our product, our team, and our clients.
- Learn a lot: Pair with each team member at least once, to understand what they are working on.
- Code a lot: Solve low-stake bug tickets or quick wins.
- Fail a lot: We work with ephemeral development environments with almost zero configuration so you can start coding fast. And failing, going back, retrying… We understand this is part of the path, so, we will encourage you to be brave!
- Talk a lot: Be fully integrated into the team’s rituals from day one.
- You will be a product engineer, taking ownership of big initiatives, and being interested in the outcome, not just the output. About the outcome, you’ll also work with your team members to establish goals and plan a quarterly roadmap, putting special attention to the technical needs of our domain.
- A Senior Engineer at Factorial influences requirements definition and is autonomous in delivering a polished solution that matches those. You participate in the team’s decision through Requests For Comments (RFCs) that you write yourself or read others’.
- You will be involved in customer calls to learn about their pains & needs.
- You will review code daily and get feedback on your code at every pull request, from all team members, including juniors.
- You will learn from the entire team, both on technical topics (performance, architecture…) and core skills, in an environment driven by engineering quality. You will also mentor junior team members and help them learn from your experience.
We care about people and offer many benefits for employees:
- 🤝🏽 High growth, multicultural, and friendly environment.
- 🤓 Continuous training and learning based on your needs.
- 🩺 Alan's private health insurance.
- 🧘🏽♀️ Healthy life with Gympass (Gyms, pools, outdoor classes).
- 💰 Save expenses with Cobee.
- 👩🏽🏫 Language classes with Yolk Academy.
- 💶 Get the most out of your salary with Payflow.
- 🍏 Breakfast in the office and organic fruit.
- 🍱 Nora and Apetit discounts.
- 🐶 Pet Friendly.
If you apply, here’s what to expect:
- A first conversation with our Talent Acquisition Partner. It will be about comparing our expectations and making sure we match on a human level. We will also check our Engineering Rubrics (check them out, they are open!) and the salary in your position.
- A second conversation with the team’s engineering manager. This is about making sure we can work together. Here you will have a conversation about the team, their needs, your profile and how can you complement it. Expect to have a mix of a human and technical conversation.
- A live coding session focused on your technical skills. You’ll be working through a problem in real time, and we’ll be looking at how you approach the solution, how you write and structure your code, and how you reason about trade-offs. It’s not about speed or pressure, it’s about your ability to solve problems thoughtfully and communicate your thinking clearly.
- One last coffee-chat with our CTO, where you can get all the answers about Factorial’s culture, business vision, or anything else that interests you.
- And that’s it! Feel free to request any other conversation you want, with team members or to address specific concerns at any time during the process.

Senior Site Reliability Engineer | Spain (Hybrid)
An opportunity to join a high growth, late stage technology company operating at significant scale. The business supports thousands of customers globally and is investing heavily in reliability, platform maturity and engineering quality as it continues to grow.
This is a true senior SRE role for someone who has been through scaling systems and teams, and is ready to lead reliability initiatives that span services, squads and stakeholders.
The role
You will operate at the intersection of software engineering, cloud infrastructure and reliability engineering. This role goes beyond execution and delivery. You will be expected to design, plan and lead initiatives, shaping how reliability, observability and incident management are implemented across the organisation.
You will partner closely with engineering teams, influence architectural decisions early, and help define how reliability is measured and improved as the platform scales.
Your soft skills
We are looking for engineers who have:
• Led initiatives across multiple teams or domains rather than working solely within one squad
• Designed and evolved systems with clear reasoning around trade offs, failure modes and long term impact
• Strong communication skills and confidence presenting technical decisions in larger group settings
• Experience in scale ups or mid sized tech environments where structure is still evolving and ownership is high
Technical background
You bring strong depth across:
• Cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, with solid networking and service level understanding
• Containers and orchestration such as Kubernetes, ECS or similar
• Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform, Pulumi or CloudFormation
• Observability and monitoring including metrics, logging and alerting using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog or CloudWatch
• CI CD and automation practices with a focus on reliability and safety
You also have a strong software engineering background, with experience building and operating systems in languages such as Python, Node.js, Ruby or similar, not just scripting.
Reliability mindset
You are comfortable with:
• Defining and using SLOs and SLIs to make reliability measurable
• Using error budgets to guide engineering priorities
• Leading or participating in incident response and post incident improvement
• Improving production readiness, on call quality and reducing recurring failure patterns
Why this role stands out
• High impact senior role with real ownership and influence
• Opportunity to shape reliability practices in a growing engineering organisation
• Strong engineering culture with an emphasis on autonomy and trust
• Competitive salary, equity and a flexible hybrid working model
If you are a senior engineer who enjoys designing systems, leading initiatives and improving reliability at scale, this role offers the scope and autonomy to make a real impact.

Canonical offers a fun, fast-paced team environment and a career full of learning and development opportunities. This team is centered in EMEA time zones, and works with colleagues on related teams in both the Americas and APAC.

The role involves the development and maintenance of Canonical's open source certification tools, supporting the creation of hardware solutions for test automation, and automating our existing processes. We seek out continuous process and tooling improvements as part of expanding the certification test suites, ultimately to improve the quality of Linux experience felt by millions of Linux end users.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and develop new features to our Python based test automation tools like Checkbox, used by both in-house teams and industry partners.
