The role of a Linux Desktop Support Engineer at Canonical
You will be working from our Canonical London Office and will be accountable for delivering technical support to our employees and customers, as well as facilitating AV support for office conferences and events. Your day to day job is to provide technical expertise, be an excellent communicator and a service-oriented professional. You will be the main technical engineering asset for the office, acting as a focal resource for the office staff. Every day you will have to make judgement calls to prioritise customer issues and maximise your effectiveness to juggle between office, in-person support, and remote support case management. You will also need to set time aside to learn about our new products and technologies, as well as become familiar with the office technical stacks, and evolve as a professional. You will participate in various training sessions, team gatherings, and company events.
What your day will look like
Your day to day duties will include:
- Work from our new, state of the art London, UK office and provide technical support for employees.
- Familiarize with and own the technical infrastructure supporting the office and the stack supporting events and customer demos.
- Provide technical onboarding support for new employees.
- Provide technical and infrastructure support during office events.
- Provide and maintain security monitoring for employees.
- Be available to take ownership of new cases via telephone, email, and web
- Ensure that each support request owned by you is handled as per our Service Level Agreement (SLA) and to the highest possible customer satisfaction by setting the right expectations and fulfilling your commitments
- Contribute your findings to a common knowledge base and keep it up to date
- Maintain regular communication and information exchange with the rest of the team, locally and remotely
- Identify and suggest any opportunities to provide a better service
- Bachelors or equivalent four year degree in a technical field from an accredited college or university. Preferable majors: Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, etc.
- Experience in a Linux based environment gained through university subjects or work experience
- Desktop Linux usage (desktop tools for editing files, browsing the Web, managing Internet connectivity, setup of printers/services/packages/external storage devices/etc. utilising command line tools for exploring and manipulating the file system)
- Basic troubleshooting (collecting logs, basic fine-tuning by editing configuration files)
- Familiarity with safely installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, and repartitioning machines with multiple operating systems and troubleshooting to recover broken installations
- Understanding of Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Applications, and Single Sign-On.
- Ability to learn quickly, thrive on change and handle the pressure of a customer facing job
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Some knowledge of programming (bash, Perl, Ruby, Javascript, C or C++, Go)
- Basic troubleshooting of Mac and Windows operating systems.
- Experience supporting virtualized environments (KVM, OpenStack, Virtual Box, VMWare)
- Experience with containers (LXD/LXC, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with network troubleshooting
- Experience with AV event support, streaming and recording

SANEVEC es un proyecto del Instituto Universitario en Ingeniería Informática (I3US), de la Universidad de Sevilla, financiado por la Agencia Estatal de Investigación (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación), con fondos NextGenerationEU de la Unión Europea, dentro de la convocatoria de Proyectos Estratégicos Orientados a la Transición Ecológica y a la Transición Digital 2021.
SANEVEC está desarrollando una herramienta informática para la determinación óptima de la ubicación de las estaciones de recarga de vehículos eléctricos en una ciudad basándose en la simulación, que será capaz de reproducir los efectos de retroalimentación entre todas las variables implicadas: ubicación de las estaciones, patrones de tráfico, características y funcionamiento de la red eléctrica, tarifas de recarga y calidad del aire en la ciudad. También integrará métodos de inteligencia artificial para encontrar soluciones de alta calidad para la ubicación de las estaciones a partir de las simulaciones y para predecir la calidad del aire en la ciudad. El objetivo será obtener beneficios medioambientales y sociales, asociados a la reducción de la contaminación ambiental y de la huella de carbono en la ciudad y a la mejora de la fluidez del tráfico urbano y de las operaciones de recarga de vehículos eléctricos.
El proyecto emplea una combinación de tecnologías: técnicas de simulación para planificar el funcionamiento del complejo sistema urbano y prever su evolución y consecuencias, utilizando modelos basados en agentes y autómatas celulares; inteligencia artificial para optimizar la ubicación de las estaciones de recarga (algoritmos genéticos) y realizar previsiones multidía de la calidad del aire en la ciudad (aprendizaje profundo). Además, utilizamos técnicas de computación de altas prestaciones para garantizar que la ejecución del software tenga un rendimiento computacional adecuado.
Las tareas a realizar están relacionadas con los paquetes de trabajo del proyecto SANEVEC.
Concretamente:
- Estudio, diseño y mejora de los algoritmos de modelización y simulación, inteligencia artificial y optimización empleados en el proyecto.
- Investigación y estudio del estado del arte.
- Programación en Python y C++ de los módulos que forman el simulador e integración entre los mismos: "City modeling module", "Traffic modeling module", "Charging station modeling module", "Electric grid modeling module", "Air quality modeling module", "Air quality forecasting module", "Genetic Algorithm", "GIS integration", "Input/Output module".
- Desarrollo de pruebas de integración del framework.
- Validación experimental del simulador.
- Tareas de configuración y gestión de hardware del proyecto.
- Escritura de informes técnicos y/o artículos para presentar resultados.
- Participación en tareas de diseminación y divulgación de resultados del proyecto.
REQUISITOS ESPECÍFICOS:
1. Titulación oficial requerida:
Grado o Licenciatura en alguna rama de Ingeniería Informática, o de otra rama de Ingeniería, o de Física, o de Matemáticas.
2. Otros requisitos valoración “Formación y Experiencia”:
Se valorará la experiencia/formación en alguno (o varios) de los siguientes apartados:
- Programación C++ y Python
- Programación paralela
- Ingeniería eléctrica
- Desarrollo de proyectos de software

- Se valorará haber superado o estar matriculado en un máster universitario de temática relacionada con el proyecto SANEVEC.
- Se valorará estar matriculado en el Programa de Doctorado en Ingeniería Informática de la Universidad de Sevilla, o en un máster que dé acceso al mismo.
Se valorará la experiencia profesional relacionada con las tareas a desempeñar, especialmente en alguno o varios de los siguientes apartados:
- Experiencia en proyectos de desarrollo de software.
- Experiencia en redes eléctricas.
- Experiencia investigadora en modelización y simulación de sistemas, en la aplicación de técnicas de inteligencia artificial, en ingeniería eléctrica, en computación de altas prestaciones y/o en técnicas de desarrollo de software.

The Program:
This is a rotational program that consists of 2 weeks of NetSuite specific onboarding followed by two 6-month team assignments on different teams at the Barcelona office, culminating in a final team placement. What You’ll Do:
We are seeking best-in-class Junior Software Engineer interested in innovative front-end or full-stack web development who will join us at Oracle NetSuite in Barcelona and who is finishing university this academic year, 2025, without any full-time work experience. You will use your knowledge and creativity to craft and build innovative new systems all the way from requirement definition through design, implementation, testing to deployment and bugfixing. Successful candidates will also be passionate about clean code, quality, and SOLID principles. You will have the opportunity to work on groundbreaking technologies to tackle real-world problems in a collaborative, agile environment.
What You’ll Bring (Objective Minimum Qualifications):
- Computer Science degree (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
- WFH model: hybrid, minimum 3 days in the office.
- Understanding of computer Science principles and ability to learn new concepts quickly such as, software architecture and patterns.
- Full-stack coding skills: mandatory any object-oriented language (e.g. Java, C#, Python, Kotlin); desired any unit testing framework.
- Intimate understanding of modern web applications and database-driven applications such as SQL. Optionally, knowledge or experience with ORM framework.
- Great problem-solving skills and the ability to abstract functional requirements and strong communication abilities in both technical and non-technical contexts.
- Analytical thinker who wants to work in a team environment and develop and grow their skills.

Responsabilidades
Como Desarrollador/a SQL, tus principales responsabilidades incluirán:
- Desarrollo y optimización de consultas SQL en SQL Server, asegurando que nuestros datos sean siempre accesibles y rápidos.
- Creación y mantenimiento de procedimientos almacenados, funciones y triggers en SQL Server. ¡Queremos un experto en la materia! 🔍
- Administración y mantenimiento de bases de datos, incluyendo migraciones y mejoras de rendimiento. Tu labor será fundamental para que la información fluya sin problemas. 📈
- Desarrollo y mantenimiento de macros en Excel con VBA para la automatización de procesos. ¡Haz que las tareas repetitivas se vuelvan cosa del pasado!
- Conexión de archivos de Excel a la base de datos mediante macros y otros métodos, integrando diferentes sistemas para facilitar el acceso a la información.
- Colaboración en la implementación y gestión de SharePoint en Office 365, optimizando el trabajo en equipo y la gestión de proyectos.

Requisitos:

- Experiencia en desarrollo y gestión de bases de datos SQL Server.
- Conocimiento avanzado de T-SQL (Transact-SQL).
- Experiencia en creación de macros en Excel con VBA.
- Conocimiento en integraciones entre Excel y SQL Server.
- Familiaridad con SharePoint Online y Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate).
- Experiencia en automatización de procesos y optimización de flujos de trabajo.
- Conocimiento en C# o VB.NET (deseable, pero no obligatorio).
- Persona proactiva, con capacidad para resolver problemas y optimizar procesos.
- Capacidad para trabajar de forma autónoma y en equipo.
- Habilidades de comunicación y documentación técnica.
- Deseo de aprender y mejorar continuamente.
- Experiencia en BI con Power BI para análisis y reportes.
- Conocimientos en desarrollo web (JavaScript, .NET, React).
